June 26, 2023 – BART on Sunday, June 25th carried 140,006 trips as riders took advantage of BART’s expanded Sunday service. That’s about 6,000 more riders than took BART for Pride ’22 and 117% of pre-COVID ridership projections for a June Sunday. It was BART’s busiest Sunday since the arrival of the pandemic.
BART now runs 5-line service until 9pm on Sundays, which is a substantial increase from the 3-line service BART had previously offered. This is in direct response to requests from riders for expanded weekend service. BART also deployed special 10-car event trains throughout the system to create extra capacity for the surge in riders for the Pride Parade.
BART employees, their families, and friends had an amazing time marching in the parade with the BARTmobile. San Francisco Pride is the largest annual gathering of Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender people, and allies in the nation and has come to symbolize the long history of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer dignity, the freedom of all people to meaningfully and proudly express their sexual and gender identities, and the commitment of LGBTQ+ people to combating oppression.
